NBA Trade Deadline

Ok so surprise I talk sports too. This past week has been quite a busy one in the NBA with trades and rumors and contract talks flying left and right with some big name players. First lets talk blockbuster. The "Melo Drama" is finally over. After an entire half season talking about trades with Denver Nuggets superstar Carmelo Anthony he has finally made a decision (glad he didn't hold an ESPN special for it) and went to go play with Amar'e Stoudemire and the revamped New York Knicks. Smart choice seeing as how his other real option was to go play with nobody and the loaded New Jersey Nets (he was never going to go to LA). I can actually consider the Knicks as a solid basketball team again and I will want to watch them. When basketball is prevalent in a venue such as the Madison Square Garden and a city such as New York, everybody is happy.
Now with New Jersey losing out on the Melo deal and walking away with their tails between their legs they had to make a deal with some sort of name. Here enters Deron Williams from the Utah Jazz out of nowhere. I don't think anyone saw this deal coming with all eyes on Carmelo but it's certainly a stepping stone for the Nets. New Jersey Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov has some DEEP pockets and will certainly be chasing some big names this off season and possibly build around Williams if he decides to stick around.
Now I'm from Boston so I will clearly have to talk about the trades that the Boston Celtics made at the last minute. In total they got rid of 5 players, one of them being a foundation in the starting 5 core (Kendrick Perkins). The main deal they made sent center Kendrick Perkins and guard Nate Robinson to Oklahoma City and in return they got forward Jeff Green and center Nenad Krstic. Now I know Perk isn't the most stable of bodies and his health is as questionable as Shaq's. But with a team that is already struggling with depth due to injuries and really struggling on the boards (second worst in the league), why would you get rid of your starting center and only back up point guard? I see this trade working out great in the future but I saw this team going all the way this year because they would have all been healthy come the end of the season when it really mattered. On a side note it was really sad to see my boy Marquis Daniels be traded away to the Sacramento Kings after such a tragic accident.
Other than these deals, some other popular names were bounced from team to team like Mike Bibby, Baron Davis and his fresh beard, Mo Williams, Shane Battier, Hasheem Thabeet, and Gerald Wallace. Some of these transactions free up some salary for this upcoming free agency frenzy coming up this off season which I am really excited to see.
