Planes in the Building

So it finally dropped, the much anticipated debut album from Wiz Khalifa on Atlantic Records "'Rolling Papers." So not to sound like "that guy" but I've been listening to Wiz for a long time now through all his different mixtapes and can safely say I am a follower and love his music and his flow. Now that all the love is out of the way I gotta drop the bomb, I was NOT impressed with Rolling Papers. I was waiting for that fresh new flow that came with "Black and Yellow" (a hit) and something newer than stealin your girl, poppin champagne, and smokin weed. For what it's worth I did enjoy the cd, but it wasn't a step forward. It was comparable to what Wiz has been rapping about since Burn after Rolling with laid back beats, airy vocals, and basic word play. Another part that struck me was the fact that he stuck with his original crew of people to work with, like Too $hort, Chevy Woods, and Curren$y. I was expecting to see him work with bigger names so it's good to see him not trying to use his fame and go too mainstream.  Overall I'm still a huge fan and can't wait to see what he starts working on for the new mixtape. I'll give this release a 3.5/5.
